ABOUT US

The Upper Clutha Radio Telephone Users Association was started when a small group formed to install a cable and radio repeater was installed in the late '70's on Mt. Roy. The system was used by about 80 operators and has since grown to serving commercial and recreational marine users, DOC, Civil Defense, Search and Rescue, as well as quite a few private companies.
Repeated lightening strikes over the years damaged the power supply to the repeater high up on the summit of Mt. Roy as well as the electrical cable coming up the mountain. In 2018 we received consent to install a new solar charging and storage system to supply power, allowing us to no longer rely on the old cable. The system was recently completed and is serving the community well.
